Jenny's story

From a young girl playing amidst the wedding dresses created by her mother to the heights of Milan’s La Scala and the red carpets of Venice and Rome, Jenny Monteiro’s career unites cultural heritage, a love of beauty, and a touch of untamed spirit. In her atelier in Milan’s historic Darsena, she continues to create custom garments for inspiring women of all ages.

Origins | The seeds of passion

Jenny Monteiro’s story begins in Capanema, Pará, the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. The third generation of tailors in her family, she grew up playing among the luxurious fabrics and lace embroidery of her mother’s wedding dress workshop. Jenny observed the unique sensibility of each woman entering the atelier, in awe of how her beauty could be exalted with careful attention to the details of her body, gesture, and personality. A childhood promise to her mother, to become a renowned designer carrying the Monteiro name, became the driving force behind her aspirations, rooted in love and shared ambition.

2002 | Italy

Leaving Brazil for Italy in 2002, Jenny dedicated herself to rigorous study at prestigious Italian fashion schools, honing her natural talent with formal education. She began working at leading Italian fashion houses, like Prada, Armani, and Dolce & Gabbana, ultimately landing at the world-renowned Sartoria Brancato. Here she perfected her unique vision amidst the voluminous tulle of stage gowns, designing for some of the world’s most famous stages including Milan’s own La Scala Theater. Her network widened, inspired equally by the city, her jet-setting friends and clients, and the lively international circles of Istituto Marangoni and Istituto Secoli which she continued to frequent.

2012 | The birth of the brand

In 2012, Jenny took a leap of faith towards a lifelong dream, launching her own brand, JMonteiro Milano, inspired by all of the beautiful strong women in her life. She opened her first atelier in one of the Navigli district’s famed historic caseifici (artisan cheese workshops), where to this day she continues to create luxurious custom creations for women around the world. The exquisite detail of her creations, the meticulousness of her work and her precise vision are all still expressed today in every garment leaving her Milano atelier.

2018 | In the spotlight

Jenny’s star rose quickly in 2018, where upon taking home top prizes at Alta Roma Fashion Week she was quickly sought after to dress stars on the Red Carpet of Venice and Rome International Film Festivals. The fashion press took notice, with the brand landing features in prestigious publications like Glamour, Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair.
